Popping and hip hop in Upper Darby
Popping Studio teaches popping and hip hop to ages 9 to 15. A class is a row of dancers hitting the same step together, with a teacher at the end of the row, in groups of up to 14 on Monday to Thursday afternoons and on Saturdays. Come to one class and see the room before you decide.

Three ways in
Sharp hits to the beat, with waves and glides around them. Ages 9 to 11 start in foundations, and ages 12 to 15 move on to animation.
About popping classesGrooves and combinations, then a routine built across the session with the dancers' own ideas in it.
About choreographySaturday afternoons on the floor with a teacher, a circle and music dancers bring to try.
About open practiceTeachers
Four teachers share the week, and each one teaches more than one class.

Owner and lead teacher, popping
Saniya teaches the popping classes and opened Popping Studio so teens in Upper Darby would have a room that takes their style seriously. She still takes class every week, and she is the one who answers the studio phone on Saturday mornings.

Hip hop and choreography teacher
Joey teaches the hip hop foundations and the choreography lab. He builds each session's routine in the room with the dancers, so the moves are ones they chose.

Foundations teacher and open practice host
Taj has danced the funk styles for most of his life. He hosts the Saturday open practice, tells where a move came from and lets the dancers teach him theirs.

Hip hop and warm-up teacher
Najwa teaches on Thursdays and leads the group warm-ups that start every class. She keeps the pace steady so that dancers of every age can follow.
The checks our teachers hold and how the classes are set up.
Ages 9 to 15
Every class and every open practice has a teacher on the floor from the first warm-up to the last circle.
Dancers under 13 are signed out to a grown-up named on their form. Dancers 13 and older leave on their own only when a parent has said so in writing.
Tell us about allergies or an injury before the first class. We ask privately once you register, never on the website form.
Sample details.
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
Parents may watch the last ten minutes of any class on the first Saturday of the month, and all of open practice. The rest of the time, wait in the front room or outside so dancers can try things without an audience. The spring showcase is in May, with seats held for each dancer's family.
Phones stay in bags during class so everyone is dancing, not watching a screen. Filming happens in a short block the teacher calls, and only dancers who have said yes are in the shot. Please don't post video of other people's dancers. Music in class is the clean edit, and dancers can suggest a song for the teacher to check first.
Clothes you can move in, a pair of clean flat-soled sneakers or socks, hair off the face and a water bottle. Take off rings and long necklaces before class. There is no uniform, and a sweatshirt is fine in winter.
Dancers 9 to 12 are signed out to a grown-up named on their form. Dancers 13 and older may leave on their own when a parent has said so in writing. The front door opens fifteen minutes before the first class, and we wait with any dancer whose ride is late.
